Google Photos and YouTube Shorts Get Powerful AI Video Editing Tools
Google is bringing powerful AI video editing tools to Google Photos and YouTube Shorts, letting users turn photos into animated videos, remix styles, and more.
Google is rolling out exciting new AI video creation and editing features to Google Photos and YouTube Shorts. These new additions let users create visually rich content in the Photos app with just a few taps.
Turn Photos Into Stunning Videos with Veo 2 in Google Photos
Google Photos, the default photo and video library for most Android users, now features a “Photo to Video” tool powered by Veo 2. Using the tool, users can turn their still photos into visually appealing short videos. They can add animations, facial expressions, and more to bring images to life.
The feature is available to both Android and iOS users and can be found under the new Create tab in the Google Photos app.
Coming Soon: AI Styles to Remix Your Photos
In addition to AI video creation, Google is also working on adding a Remix feature to the Photos app. The upcoming feature works quite similarly to Image Styles in Apple’s Image Playground app, enabling users to add unique image styles such as anime, comic, sketch, 3D animation, and more, to their photos using AI.
All AI-generated creations will include a SynthID digital watermark, ensuring transparency around AI use.
AI Video Tools Arrive on YouTube Shorts
Along with the Photos app, YouTube Shorts is also getting a creative upgrade. Shorts creators can now use the new Photo to Video feature to turn photos from their camera roll into Shorts-ready videos, complete with animated landscapes, lively group shots, and more.
Additionally, YouTube Shorts will feature new AI effects, allowing users to:
- Transform doodles into imaginative images
- Animate selfies into fun, shareable videos
However, this update comes at an interesting time. YouTube recently announced it will no longer reward non-original, AI-generated content through monetization. That means Shorts created using these new tools may not qualify for revenue under YouTube’s latest policies, raising questions about how creators should approach these features.
Get Ready to Create Like Never Before
The new Photo to Video feature in Google Photos and YouTube Shorts is rolling out today across the U.S., Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, with new effects arriving in the coming weeks.
