Apple’s next touchscreen MacBook Pro could get M7 Pro and M7 Max in 2027

Apple’s next touchscreen MacBook Pro is already in the works, with M7 Pro and M7 Max chips tipped for late 2027 and a redesigned entry-level M7 model on the way.

Apple has barely introduced its first touchscreen MacBook Pro models, but it’s already preparing their successors. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is developing next-generation touchscreen models with M7 Pro and M7 Max chips for 2027, with new hardware capabilities aimed particularly at artificial intelligence workloads.

Interestingly, Apple could also introduce a redesigned entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro, bringing the thinner chassis and slimmer display bezels of its premium models to a more affordable option.

M7 Pro and M7 Max chips could focus on AI

The biggest highlight of Apple’s upcoming MacBook Pro lineup could be its new M7 Pro and M7 Max processors. These chips are expected to introduce additional hardware capabilities to handle demanding on-device AI workloads more efficiently.

Apple hasn’t shared any technical details about the M7 chip family yet, so it’s unclear exactly how much faster these processors will be compared to the current M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, which power the first touchscreen models Apple unveiled on October 28.

We covered earlier that Apple could skip the M6 Pro and M6 Max generations entirely and move directly from the M5 Pro and M5 Max to the M7 lineup. If accurate, this would mark a notable change in Apple’s usual processor upgrade cycle.

Entry-level MacBook Pro could get a redesign

Apple is also reportedly developing a new 14-inch MacBook Pro, codenamed K104, powered by the standard M7 chip.

This upcoming version is expected to adopt the thinner and lighter chassis introduced with Apple’s redesigned touchscreen MacBook Pro lineup. It should also feature slimmer display bezels, in line with previous leaks.

However, it’s unclear whether this model will get premium features such as an OLED display and touchscreen support. Apple could continue using its Liquid Retina XDR display to maintain a clear distinction between the standard and premium MacBook Pro models.

M7 MacBook Pro models launch timeline

According to the report, Apple’s high-end MacBook Pro models featuring M7 Pro and M7 Max chips could arrive toward the end of 2027. The entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro with the standard M7 chip is also expected next year, possibly as early as the first half of 2027, as per the leaked 2027 roadmap.

Apple hasn’t officially confirmed these plans.

If the reports are accurate, 2027 could be an interesting year for MacBook buyers. Alongside improved AI performance, Apple could make its redesigned MacBook Pro more accessible with a refreshed entry-level model.
