Foldable iPhone to Get Massive 8-Inch Display, 2026 Launch Target
The rumors and leaks surrounding Apple’s first-ever foldable iPhone have become increasingly consistent over the past few weeks, hinting that the iPhone Fold may arrive sooner than expected. In the latest leak, Taiwanese research firm TrendForce revealed key display specifications and a potential launch timeline.
Dual-Screen Setup: 7.8-inch Inner, 5.5-inch Outer
According to TrendForce, the foldable iPhone (iPhone Fold 1) will feature a 7.8-inch display when unfolded and a 5.5-inch outer display. These display sizes further substantiate the predictions made by reputable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo in March. This means that there are now multiple sources backing the display size predictions, assuming TrendForce is not simply echoing Kuo’s forecast.
Crease-Free Display Technology
As reported last week, Apple has finalized Samsung Display (SDC) as the partner to supply the displays for the iPhone Fold. Now, Kuo has also added that the foldable iPhone and Samsung’s future Galaxy Z Fold 8 will sport crease-free displays. Apple is reportedly planning to use a laser-drilled metal display plate, which helps evenly disperse the stress of bending, potentially eliminating the display crease seen on current foldables.
Touch ID Returns, Face ID May Be Dropped
Kuo also believes that Apple may opt for Touch ID on the iPhone Fold instead of the standard Face ID that Apple uses on all its modern iPhones. The device is also expected to feature two rear cameras and one front camera, in line with its slim design and folding mechanism.
Launch Timeline: Second Half of 2026
Both Ming-Chi Kuo and TrendForce believe Apple is targeting a launch window in the second half of 2026, making a debut in September highly likely, if Apple follows its typical iPhone release cycle.
Apple’s Foldable Future Looks Promising…
While it is quite clear that Apple is following a measured approach to entering the foldable market, these recent leaks and analyses suggest that a truly innovative device could be in the works.
