Five Upgrades Spotted in iOS 26 Code
In a revealing report, Filipe EspΓ³sito from Macworld identified references to AirTag 2 within a leaked build of iOS 26. EspΓ³sito, who recently shared insights on updates for the next Studio Display, points to some leaked code strings for these findings.
EspΓ³sito’s analysis found that AirTag 2, now internally tagged as β2025AirTag,β could feature several enhancements:
- A streamlined pairing process
- Boosted Precision Finding capabilities
- More detailed battery level tracking
- “Improved Moving,” potentially enhancing in-motion tracking
- Enhanced accuracy in crowded settings
Based on these code indications, Apple seemed to have aimed for a 2025 release for the updated AirTag. Whether they can still deliver within this timeframe is uncertain.
New HomePod Mini Also Referenced
The same leaked iOS code points to the development of a new HomePod mini featuring an S10 chip. Earlier leaks have suggested a refresh, and this latest discovery backs up the notion that Apple is working on an updated model.
