ChatGPT to Add Apple Music Integration for AI‑Generated Playlists
OpenAI has confirmed that Apple Music will soon integrate with ChatGPT, enabling AI-generated playlists and conversational music discovery inside chat.
ChatGPT is preparing to add Apple Music as a supported app, enabling users to create and play playlists directly via chat. The confirmation comes from OpenAI and points to a broader expansion of its in‑chat app ecosystem.
Apple Music Listed as an Upcoming ChatGPT App
In a Substack post published today, Fidji Simo, OpenAI’s CEO of Applications, said Apple Music is among the next apps planned for integration with ChatGPT. According to Simo, these apps will appear in a new directory that expands the current set of supported services.
Apple Music was mentioned alongside Adobe, Airtable, OpenTable, Replit, Salesforce, Clay, and Lovable. OpenAI also plans to allow other developers to submit their apps for review, suggesting a more open and scalable app ecosystem within ChatGPT.
The information was shared directly by Fidji Simo via Substack.
How Apple Music Is Expected to Work
OpenAI has not shared specific feature details, but Apple Music is expected to work similarly to Spotify’s existing ChatGPT integration. With Spotify, users can start a prompt by referencing the app, and ChatGPT activates it in the conversation to complete the request using the prompt’s context.
If Apple Music follows the same model, users could describe what they want to listen to in natural language and have ChatGPT generate an instantly playable playlist from Apple Music’s catalog. The focus is on reducing manual search and making music discovery more conversational.
A key advantage of this approach is its ability to handle vague or incomplete requests. Instead of recalling exact song titles or artists, users can describe moods, themes, or partial memories and let the language model translate that into relevant results.
What This Means for ChatGPT Apps
OpenAI first introduced apps in ChatGPT in October, partnering with Spotify, Canva, Booking.com, Coursera, Figma, Expedia, and Zillow. At the same time, it released a preview version of its Apps SDK for developers.
By announcing a larger app directory and naming high‑profile partners such as Apple Music, OpenAI is signaling that the Apps SDK is moving closer to broader availability beyond its preview phase.
Apple Music access through ChatGPT will still require an active subscription. Apple currently prices the service at $10.99 per month, with a one‑month free trial for new users.
OpenAI has not yet shared a rollout timeline, but more details about the Apple Music integration are expected in the coming days.
