iOS 27’s Tap to Share lets merchants and customers exchange info with a simple tap

Apple is expanding Tap to Pay on iPhone with a new iOS 27 feature called Tap to Share. The feature allows merchants and customers to exchange information over NFC during checkout, eliminating the need to manually enter details such as email addresses, loyalty numbers, or shipping information.

Instead of typing information during a transaction, customers can simply tap their iPhone to securely share the required details and continue with their purchase.

The feature is designed primarily for small businesses, independent sellers, and local vendors that use an iPhone as their primary checkout device instead of a dedicated point-of-sale terminal.

By combining payments and information sharing into a single interaction, Apple aims to reduce friction at checkout and streamline the purchasing experience for both businesses and customers.

Availability and compatibility

Tap to Share requires an iPhone 12 or newer and is available as part of iOS 27 (currently in beta).

The feature will not be included in the initial rollout across the European Economic Area (EEA). Apple has not provided a reason for the regional limitation or announced when the feature may become available in those markets.

For businesses already relying on an iPhone as a checkout device, Tap to Share could eliminate several extra steps from every transaction. Customers can join loyalty programs, receive digital receipts, add Wallet passes, and share important information without filling out forms or manually entering their details.
