Five iPhone 18 Pro camera features may be hidden in iOS 27 code

iOS 27 beta code points to five unfinished Camera features that could arrive with the iPhone 18 Pro, including manual focus and aperture-based processing.

Apple may be preparing five camera controls that have not appeared in the iOS 27 betas yet. A MacRumors forum post from user pdfu points to new Camera code for exposure scopes, focus tools, repeated self-timer shots, manual focus, and aperture-based image correction.

The code does not confirm that these features are coming to the iPhone 18 Pro. None is available in the current beta, and Apple could hold some back for a later update.

Five camera changes appear in the leak

The reported features cover both photo controls and the processing that happens after the shutter is pressed:

  1. Exposure scopes: The Camera app may add waveform and histogram views to help users judge brightness while shooting. The code includes luminance, RGB Composite, and RGB Parade options.
  2. Focus peaking and highlight warnings: Colored edges could show which parts of a scene are in focus. A separate overlay could warn when bright areas are losing detail, using solid colors, pulses, diagonal stripes, or a checkerboard pattern.
  3. Repeated self-timer shots: A timer could take several photos in a row, restarting the countdown without waiting for each image to finish processing. That would be useful for group photos and moving into position without running back to the phone after every shot.
  4. Manual focus: A slider could let users set and lock focus instead of leaving the job entirely to autofocus. Apple already offers a similar control in Final Cut Camera.
  5. Aperture-based image correction: iOS 27 could choose different lens-correction data depending on the camera’s aperture setting, then blend between nearby calibration points.

The aperture code is the clearest iPhone 18 Pro clue

The last feature fits a separate iPhone 18 Pro rumor. Apple is widely expected to add a variable-aperture main camera, which would let the lens opening change instead of staying fixed. If that hardware arrives, the new processing code could help the Camera app compensate for how the lens behaves at different settings.

The forum post says the system can use up to four calibration references. That does not mean the iPhone will have four physical aperture stops. It only describes how iOS can select and blend correction data.

The same product cycle has already produced leaks about the lineup and chip. iOS 27 beta code is believed to reference the fall iPhone 18 Pro models and Apple’s foldable, while a separate A20 Pro leak points to a possible seven-core GPU. Those reports are also unconfirmed.

Apple may reveal more this week

Apple’s September 9 event is the first obvious chance to show the iPhone 18 Pro camera system. Still, a feature appearing in beta code does not guarantee a launch-day release. The controls could remain hidden, be limited to new hardware, or arrive in a later iOS 27 update.

For now, the leak suggests Apple is working on more serious camera controls for the iPhone. It does not yet tell us which of them will actually ship.
