Wondering how to earn Sidekick Points in Fortnite? Here's how to collect them quickly and unlock new customization options for your favorite Sidekicks.
Sidekicks are a fun distraction in Fortnite. They are also among the newer features added to Epicβs multiplayer title over the past year. Being yet another type of cosmetic item, they allow more room for personal expression in the highly popular game. However, unlike other cosmetics, Sidekicks are only visible to you and not to your opponents during a match.
From virtual pet dogs like Miso to pop culture icons like SpongeBob, you can pick from a wide catalog of characters to keep as your Sidekick. For the sake of more personalization, you can further use Sidekick Points, which are similar to Fortnite XP, to change the appearance of your tag-along companion. The following guide will tell you how to quickly rack up Sidekick Points to unlock more customization options.
You can earn Sidekick Points by playing matches in compatible Fortnite game modes with your Sidekick character equipped. The modes that make these points counter tick are Battle Royale, LEGO Fortnite, Fortnite Save The World, and Fortnite Festival. Additionally, certain Fortnite Creative maps that allow Sidekicks to be used also generate these points.
As you play more such matches and gain more XP, your Sidekick Points also increase simultaneously. Some key metrics in a match that decide how many of these points you gain are time survived, eliminations, assists, and accolades achieved.
In particular, how long you last in a game without being eliminated is understood to play the biggest role in how many Sidekick Points you accrue at the end. Keeping that in mind, the fastest method to gain points appears to be playing the Respawn Rumble mode, in which infinite respawns mean the player stays active throughout the entire match.
Another way of boosting Sidekick Points would be to camp during Battle Royale matches in order to survive the longest possible time. On the flipside, you may also passively farm these points, although at a slower rate, in LEGO Fortnite. You can do this by idling in a safe region in the sandbox game’s map.
Upon getting a Sidekick, you may notice a ‘Sidekicks’ section in the Quests tab. These Sidekick quests consist of a number of milestones that you can reach to obtain certain cosmetics for your virtual companion. Usually, each milestone can be completed by hitting a specific number of Sidekick Points with a given Sidekick.
After several months of being in Fortnite, Sidekicks are steadily settling into the vast library of the online game’s cosmetics. And, some players are increasingly invested in taking their most favorite companions to the battlefield, while others are still warming up to the idea.
Moreover, this new cosmetic has already seen the influence of Fortnite’s various collabs, with popular characters such as South Park’s Towelie becoming available as a companion. In the coming months, fans can expect the list to continue growing, possibly with even more characters from established IPs joining as Sidekicks.
