GTA 6 has once again fallen victim to a massive leak, revealing several key gameplay features that have not been officially confirmed before. Interestingly, the latest batch of leaked details comes just days before Rockstar Games is scheduled to premiere an extended look at the hotly anticipated game on Netflix on August 27.

Throughout the course of its development, GTA 6 has suffered from multiple major leaks, which arguably also played a role in its decision to go discless with the game. In 2022, a big pile of confidential clips was shared on the internet, irking the American publisher. Right before its debut trailer in December 2023, a recording of the same was published ahead of time in another instance of a leak. Given the sheer scale of the latest leaks, it is comparable in seriousness to those that surfaced four years prior.

The freshest set of leaks is reportedly a developing situation, as the leaker behind it, Cyberleek, has said that they have more footage to spill online. Below, we have collated all the leaked unofficial information about GTA 6 that is now in the public domain.

GTA 6 latest leak explained

Jason using phone gta 6

On August 18, a new round of GTA 6 leaks bearing the watermark “Cyberleek” started spreading on social media. Among them, two gameplay videos and an image being touted as the official in-game map gained a lot of traction and roused discussions on the internet. While one video showed GTA 6 protagonist Jason playing basketball at his safehouse, the other showed him beating down an NPC and trying to make a run for it from law enforcement in his car.

Almost as soon as the leaks began propagating online, Rockstar Games launched its offense by sending DMCA takedown notices, pulling down these clips from the sites where they were hosted. As new uploads of the footage take place, the company is quickly reacting to the same by getting those pulled down as well. Such prompt action by the gaming giant implicitly confirms the legitimacy of the leaked content.

In the immediate aftermath, Cyberleaks’ apparent motive behind the GTA 6 leak also came to the fore. Mainly, the hacker announced three “commandments” that showed their disapproval of digital pre-orders and “fake” single-player DLC, alongside their support for preservation of single-player content. Importantly, it was mentioned that any publisher breaking one of these conditions would be targeted consistently until the latter shared a public apology.

All new GTA 6 gameplay and map details revealed

Changes to Wanted System in GTA 6

Jason assaulting an NPC

The leaked footage shows Jason assaulting an NPC with a wrench and attaining a wanted level for his actions. From that sequence, we saw certain noteworthy details in the game’s Wanted System.

  1. 6-star wanted level returns for the first time since GTA 4 (2008).
  2. Police will remember distinct details about the player, including appearance, clothing, and vehicle.
  3. When you gain a wanted level, incoming police won’t be marked on the map, like in GTA 5, but instead a flashing circular zone will appear centered at your position.
  4. Directional markers indicating detection, like the ones seen in Ubisoft games such as Watch Dogs: Legion, appear when a police officer is nearby.

Driving gameplay and cars in GTA 6

Driving gameplay and cars in GTA 6

One of the leaked videos shows Jason driving a Vapid ’70 Ganado rather recklessly. The short driving sequence unraveled quite a few intriguing tidbits for players to chew on.

  1. Cars will have a fuel indicator, suggesting there may be an in-game mechanic that requires refueling gas in cars before you can drive them again.
  2. The player character automatically adjusts the rear-view mirror, according to the situation.
  3. Cars can be used to store weapons and more in GTA 6. You can also close/open the trunk manually.

GTA 6 HUD details and changes

  1. The health bar doesn’t show up at all times but only when there is a change in the meter, such as when you take damage.
  2. There is a stamina bar that also shows up when there is a change. In the case of the leaked clip, repeatedly striking an NPC depleted Jason’s stamina bar.
  3. The equipped weapon in the HUD now has color and isn’t grayscale like in GTA 5.
  4. There are two money indicators, one showing money carried in the wallet and the other showing money kept at the safehouse/bank.

NPC relations in GTA 6

NPC relations in GTA 6
  1. When Jason, in the leaked clip, beat down the NPC, a purple devil emoji showed up with a minus symbol adjacent to it. This strongly hints at the incorporation of an honor system akin to the one featured in Red Dead Redemption 2, where the player’s in-game actions define how the NPCs perceive him.
  2. A split-second frame, right before the NPC fight, shows the options “Defuse” and “Warn”. This makes it very likely that RDR 2-like NPC interactions will make their way into GTA 6 as well.

Minigame in GTA 6

  1. The basketball minigame returns to GTA for the first time since GTA San Andreas (2004).
  2. A basketball backboard is apparently available right at Jason’s safehouse.

GTA 6 map locations

Alongside gameplay stuff, the entire map of Leonida was also present among the leaks. Given below are all the major map locations within Leonida, arriving in the GTA sequel.

  • Vice-Dale County
  • Leonard County
  • Lummox County
  • Kelly County
  • Mariana Country

Further, the Leonida map in GTA 6 is surrounded by three distinct water bodies, namely the Gulf of Leonida, the Leonida Straits, and the Atlantic Ocean.

Author’s take

The latest GTA 6 leak right ahead of the game’s high-profile Netflix video feature is undoubtedly an unfortunate setback for Rockstar’s marketing team. However, it seems like the problem is far from over at this point, with Cyberleaks threatening with two to four more leaks pertaining to GTA 6 in the pipeline.

Once the saga is over and the dust settles, it will be interesting to see how it impacts Rockstar Games’ plan for the August 27 premiere and GTA 6’s eventual launch on November 19. Fans would certainly hope that the fiasco Rockstar finds itself in the midst of, despite rigorously locking down their offices and communication channels, doesn’t affect the twice-delayed game’s release timeline.
