Apple releases iOS 26.6 with security fixes, Spotlight improvements, and more

Apple has released iOS 26.6 for all compatible iPhone models. Unlike iOS 26.4 and iOS 26.5, the latest update doesn’t introduce any major user-facing features. iOS 26.6 addresses this issue by introducing a new “Blocked Contacts Limit Reached” alert. Instead of silently failing, iOS now informs users that they’ve reached the limit and prompts them to remove an existing blocked contact before adding a new one.

Apple’s Anti-Snatching Protection isn’t ready yet

Although it isn’t included in today’s release, the iOS 26.6 beta revealed that Apple is still actively developing an Anti-Snatching Protection feature.

Code discovered during beta testing suggests the iPhone could detect when an unlocked device is suddenly snatched from its owner and automatically lock itself to prevent unauthorized access.

Apple has not announced when the feature will be released, and it remains disabled in the public version of iOS 26.6. For now, the beta code simply confirms that development is ongoing.

Apple has published details for more than 75 security fixes affecting iPhone and iPad, addressing vulnerabilities across multiple components of iOS and iPadOS.

According to Apple, the update resolves a bug that previously allowed users to modify the Private Wi-Fi Address setting even when IT administrators had restricted access through device management policies.

With iOS 26.6 now available, Apple’s focus is shifting toward iOS 27.

The next major iPhone software update is already available through the Developer Beta and Public Beta programs, with the stable release expected later this September.
