Apple’s reported iPhone Duo display will give shoppers more hands-on demos, while supply may stay tight. Preorders open October 16 ahead of the October 23 release.
Apple is preparing a larger-than-usual in-store display for the iPhone Duo, but the first wave of stock could still be limited, according to a Bloomberg report cited by MacRumors. The foldable phone is already official, with preorders opening October 16 and sales beginning October 23. Apple has not confirmed the reported store rollout or how many units will be available.
The reported display plan includes more demo phones at Apple’s busiest locations and a new fixture designed to show the device opening and closing. That could give shoppers a better way to try the iPhone Duo before buying it, but it may not solve the main concern for launch day: how quickly early inventory sells out.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that Apple is setting up more iPhone Duo demo units than it typically provides for a new model. The report says the Fifth Avenue store in New York will have more than 150 demos, while Apple Park’s visitor center will have nearly 100. Other stores are expected to get around 20, with several high-profile locations receiving 30 to 40.
The showcase is designed to make the foldable form factor easier to understand. The reported fixture lets customers open and close a demo unit, while a MagSafe stand can hold the iPhone Duo open beside two regular iPhones. That gives shoppers a direct comparison with the familiar iPhone shape and a chance to see how the larger inside screen works.
These details come from reporting, not an Apple retail announcement. The company has not published a store-by-store list of demo counts or said which locations will have the special fixture. The number of display phones also does not indicate how many units will be available for purchase.
Apple has confirmed that the iPhone Duo goes on sale October 23 in more than 70 countries and regions. In the United States, it starts at $1,999 for 256GB. Preorders begin October 16 at 5 a.m. Pacific time.
In the U.S., Apple’s Store app is already showing a “Get Ready” step for buyers. People can select a configuration ahead of preorder day, which may make checkout quicker when orders open. It is a useful option for anyone set on buying at launch, especially if the reported supply constraint means popular colors or storage sizes sell through quickly.
Bloomberg says Apple expects limited availability at launch, although it has enough units for the October 23 release after earlier production concerns. The report says the company had worried that manufacturing constraints could push some sales into November. Apple has not shared a stock estimate, so it is not possible to know how long buyers may wait after launch.
The iPhone Duo’s price makes trying it in a store especially relevant. At $1,999, it costs substantially more than Apple’s conventional iPhones, and shoppers may want to test the hinge, folded size and inside display before deciding. The new display setup could make that easier at flagship stores, but most locations are reportedly getting fewer demo units.
