OpenAI has launched an Admin plugin that brings usage reports, member management, permissions, limits, and spending approvals into ChatGPT Work and Codex.
OpenAI has launched an Admin plugin for ChatGPT Work and Codex that lets workspace admins inspect usage, manage access, and make supported account changes from a conversation.
The plugin puts routine Admin Console work inside ChatGPT. An admin can ask which teams are using the most credits, check why someone cannot access a model, approve a spending request, or update a group without jumping between settings and reports.
The first release covers four common parts of workspace administration:
Admins can ask follow-up questions before taking action. For example, they could compare credit use across teams, create a chart for a monthly review, then adjust a limit after seeing the underlying data.
That fits the broader idea behind ChatGPT Work, which is meant to complete multi-step jobs across tools rather than return a single answer.
The plugin does not create a shortcut around workspace controls. OpenAI says it works within the admin’s existing role and permissions, while respecting workspace policies and approval requirements.
It also returns a structured result for each request, so admins can see whether an action completed and what changed. Actions with wider impact can be reviewed before the plugin applies them.
That permission model matters more here than it does for a read-only report. Removing a member or changing model access has real consequences, and a conversational interface should not make those changes invisible.
OpenAI says the plugin can monitor recurring conditions and route requests to Slack or Microsoft Teams. A company could send pending credit requests to an authorized reviewer or automatically grant feature access when a request meets predefined rules.
The Admin plugin joins tools such as the recent Apple Messages plugin for ChatGPT on Mac, but it targets the people running the workspace rather than the members using it.
Workspace admins can enable the plugin in ChatGPT settings, then install it from the Plugins directory in ChatGPT Work on the web or desktop app. OpenAI has not published a plan-by-plan availability list in the announcement.
