Pond Sprite in Fortnite: What it does and how to find it

With yet another Fortnite update comes a new community-made sprite called the Pond Sprite. It follows after the Onigiri Sprite and the X-Ray Sprite, which were also sprites conceived by the players themselves.

Created by X user @matsubokiri, Pond Sprite is one of the five fan entries that were selected for being added into Fortnite in August. After the arrival of this sprite, the only ones from the bunch yet to join the in-game lineup are Honey Sprite and Dumpster Dive Sprite.

Pond Sprite: Abilities and level-up bonuses

Pond Sprite is a community-made sprite of Epic rarity. By equipping it, you can press jump again after landing to do a bigger jump aka Super Jump, given that a charge (generates over time) is available for use. This ability should come in handy when trying to escape an early-match skirmish or when trying to quickly race outside of the Storm.

Upon ranking up the Pond Sprite, the strength of your Super Jump increases, whereas the cooldown time for using the ability decreases. Hence, for those who prioritize quick traversal and evasion during Fortnite matches, leveling up this sprite is a recommended move.

How to get Pond Sprite in Fortnite

Among the three sprites added on September 17, Pond Sprite is the easiest to grab, given it’s of the Epic tier while the other two are Legendary-tier sprites. Hence, once you start following the ways below, it shouldn’t take you too long before you end up with a Pond Sprite in your collection.

1. Through Rare Cheat Codes or Epic Cheat Codes

Cheat codes can reasonably be considered the primary source of sprites in Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4. Since Pond Sprite is an Epic item, you could easily get it by using Epic Cheat Codes (purple) or even Rare Cheat Codes (blue). But, as obvious, the former has a much higher probability of offering this particular sprite than the latter.

When you are going on a search for cheat codes, it’s important to first look in the areas where they are highly concentrated. In the current Battle Royale map, Heatwave Harbor, Cluster Coast, and Shaken Sanctuary are the locations leading in this aspect.

Moreover, you can easily locate nearby cheat codes using the Cheat Code Locator, which can be exchanged with Sprite Dust at any of the Extraction Sites or by using relevant lobby hacks in Fortnite.

2. Through blue-colored chests aka Rare Chests

Chests are another way of getting sprites, even though they may usually just spawn loot. For boosting your chances of finding a sprite in them, you must target special chests such as the Rare Chests (the blue-colored kind).

You can find these blue chests in certain key locations on the island, including Pac-Man islands (shaped in the form of Pac-Man, Blinky, and Pinky), The Battlewoods, and Stone Sanctum.

3. Use the help of another player

If you can find a willing player, from places such as Fortnite’s official Discord, the lowest-effort way to get the Pond Sprite should be borrowing it from someone else. To do this, the two players involved have to join a match, where the owner of the sprite lets the other player take it from him and then extract the same. To return the sprite, they once again have to join a match together and repeat the aforementioned step in the opposite direction this time.

After this, the player who returned the sprite can easily recall the item through the Override tab’s Sprites section. However, it’s worth noting that a nominal amount of Sprite Dust will be needed for this to work.

So far, the community-created sprites have been quite an interesting addition in Fortnite. While the Onigiri Sprite may not be a gamechanger, the X-Ray Sprite certainly holds up its weight and then some when it comes to utility. The latter sprite is, hence, popular and widely sought-after by the players.

In the coming weeks, it will be intriguing to see how the devs spread out the remaining two community-made sprites across the rest of the Fortnite Override season. Another thing that should be worth noting is whether any of the forthcoming player-conceived sprites can replace the X-Ray Sprite in terms of its importance in gameplay.
