WhatsApp could soon let users upload documents directly to Meta AI, making it easier to ask questions about PDFs, spreadsheets, and other files inside chats.

The feature was spotted in the latest WhatsApp beta for iPhone and would allow users to share documents directly with Meta AI instead of relying on screenshots or copied text.

As uncovered by WABetaInfo, the new feature appears in WhatsApp’s in-chat attachment menu, allowing users to send documents directly to Meta AI instead of manually pasting text or sharing screenshots.

Document uploads could make Meta AI significantly more useful for tasks such as:

  • Analyzing PDFs
  • Reviewing spreadsheets
  • Answering questions about documents
  • Solving problems step by step
  • Summarizing long documents

Instead of describing a document manually, users would simply upload the file and ask questions directly about its contents.

WABetaInfo says the feature is currently rolling out to some beta testers on iPhone, while Android beta users had already started receiving access earlier.

Meta AI is catching up to other assistants

The feature would bring Meta AI closer to assistants like OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini, both of which already support document analysis.

According to WABetaInfo, the feature also improves usability because sharing documents with Meta AI works similarly to sending files in normal WhatsApp chats and groups.

Previously, many users relied on screenshots to share text-heavy information with Meta AI, which often made interactions slower and more frustrating.

There is currently no official timeline for a wider rollout, though WhatsApp beta features often expand gradually over several weeks before rolling out publicly.

As with many WhatsApp beta updates, some App Store users may already have limited access to the feature.
