WhatsApp is testing a new AI-powered feature that summarizes unread messages across multiple chats in one place, making it easier to catch up without opening each conversation individually.
WhatsApp is expanding its AI-powered summaries feature beyond individual conversations, and the next step looks far more practical.
According to WABetaInfo, the latest TestFlight build includes references to a feature that can generate a summary of unread messages across multiple chats. This builds on the summarization tools WhatsApp has already been testing within individual conversations.
Right now, WhatsApp already offers summaries inside individual chats. You open a conversation, tap a button, and get a quick overview of unread messages.
What’s being tested now goes a step further. Instead of checking chats one by one, you may see a “Get a summary” button at the top of the Chats tab when using the Unread filter. Tapping it would generate a combined summary of messages across multiple conversations.
The feature is still under development, but the idea is straightforward. It gives you a quick sense of what you’ve missed without having to open each chat separately.
WhatsApp continues to use its Private Processing system for this, which means the summaries are generated in a way that keeps message content secure while still producing a readable overview.
This shift feels more about convenience than capability. The underlying feature already exists, but this version makes it easier to use when you have several unread chats.
Instead of opening five or six conversations just to catch up, you get a quick snapshot of everything in one place. For people who deal with a high volume of messages, that could make a noticeable difference.
It isn’t available to users yet. However, it’s being developed for both iOS and Android, which usually points to a wider rollout once testing is complete.
Would you use a single summary for all unread chats? Let us know in the comments.
