Apple releases iOS 27.0.1 with fixes for iPhone 18 Pro bugs

Apple released iOS 27.0.1 on September 28, the first bug-fix update for iOS 27. The update fixes three issues, including a Face ID problem that could make the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max restart unexpectedly.

Apple lists build 24A446 for the update. Two of the fixes are specific to iPhone 18 Pro models; the third addresses a touchscreen problem without naming a particular iPhone.

What iOS 27.0.1 fixes

Apple’s notes list three changes:

• iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max may unexpectedly restart when Face ID fails to authenticate.
• A color artifact may appear in 2x photos taken at f/1.48 under certain lighting conditions on a small number of iPhone 18 Pro models.
• Opening Notification Center and Control Center at the same time may leave the touchscreen unresponsive.

The release notes do not explain what causes the camera artifact or how often it appears. Apple also leaves the affected iPhone models unspecified for the Control Center and Notification Center issue.

Face ID restart bug gets a public fix

When Face ID failed to recognize the user, affected phones could restart. Apple had told 9to5Mac that it was preparing a software update after reports of the behavior, and iOS 27.0.1 now includes the fix. Apple’s release notes do not say whether the restart could happen in other situations or explain the underlying cause.

The camera fix is narrower. Apple specifies 2x photos, an f/1.48 aperture, certain lighting conditions, and a small number of iPhone 18 Pro devices. That description does not indicate a general camera-quality change or a problem with all 2x photos.

The update also addresses a touchscreen freeze

The remaining fix concerns opening Notification Center and Control Center together. Apple says this could leave the touchscreen unresponsive, but does not describe how long it lasted or identify the devices affected. The update notes do not mention new features; iOS 27.0.1 is focused on correcting these reported problems.
