iPhone Duo vs Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold: Which foldable should you buy?

Apple has finally entered the foldable phone market with iPhone Duo, but Google is already on store shelves with the Pixel 11 Pro Fold. Both phones give you a phone-sized outer screen and a larger tablet-like display inside, but they make very different trade-offs.

Here is the short version: buy the Pixel 11 Pro Fold if you want a foldable now, a larger display, a lighter design, and a more flexible zoom camera. Wait for iPhone Duo if you already use an iPhone, Mac, Apple Watch, or Apple Pencil and want a foldable that fits naturally into that ecosystem. Apple’s phone also offers a 2TB storage option and a strong video feature set, but it costs $100 more at list price and does not arrive in the U.S. until October 23.

These are official specifications, not independent test results. Apple and Google measure battery life differently, so the battery claims should not be treated as a direct winner-takes-all comparison.

Design and displays

The Pixel 11 Pro Fold is the better fit if you want the biggest canvas. Its 8-inch inner display is larger than the iPhone Duo’s 7.6-inch screen, and its 6.5-inch outer display is also much more spacious than Apple’s 5.4-inch cover screen. That extra room should make typing, reading, and multitasking more comfortable without opening the phone every time.

The size advantage does not make the Pixel bulky. At 8.4 ounces, it is 0.56 ounces lighter than iPhone Duo. Google also lists the Pixel at 0.4 inches thick when folded, compared with 0.44 inches for Apple’s phone.

Apple takes a different approach. iPhone Duo is shorter and wider when open, with a 7.6-inch inner display in a 6.48 x 4.64-inch body. The phone also supports ProMotion up to 120Hz on both displays, an Always-On display, Dynamic Island, and Apple Pencil USB-C support. Apple lists up to 3,000 nits of outdoor peak brightness, while Google lists up to 3,600 nits peak brightness on both Pixel displays.

The choice is simple: get the Pixel for more screen space and lower weight, or choose iPhone Duo if you prefer Apple’s display features and want to use an Apple Pencil with the foldable. The Pixel is the more practical mini-tablet, while the iPhone is the more compact Apple device when folded.

Cameras: Pixel wins zoom, iPhone wins video flexibility

The Pixel 11 Pro Fold has the more versatile camera hardware. Its rear system includes a 48MP main camera, a 10.5MP ultrawide camera with autofocus and Macro Focus, and a dedicated 10.8MP 5x telephoto camera with optical image stabilization. Google also supports Super Zoom up to 30x.

iPhone Duo uses two 48MP rear cameras: a main camera and an ultrawide camera. The main camera gives you 2x optical-quality telephoto framing, but there is no dedicated telephoto lens. Its official optical-quality range runs from 0.5x through 2x, with up to 10x digital zoom.

That makes the Pixel the safer pick for concerts, sports, travel, and distant subjects. The dedicated 5x camera gives it a real hardware advantage instead of asking the main camera to crop aggressively.

Apple’s response is video. iPhone Duo can record 4K Dolby Vision video at up to 120 frames per second with its Fusion Main camera. It also supports Center Stage, Dual Capture, and Audio Mix features designed for people who record themselves and their surroundings. The Pixel records rear video up to 4K at 60 frames per second and adds Video Boost, Night Sight Video, and 10-bit HDR.

Choose the Pixel for zoom and camera flexibility. Choose iPhone Duo if video recording, FaceTime, and Apple’s camera tools matter more than having a dedicated telephoto lens.

Software and ecosystem

This is the decision that will matter most after the hardware comparison. iPhone Duo runs iOS 27, while the Pixel 11 Pro Fold runs Android 17. If you have a Mac, Apple Watch, AirPods, or an iPad, iPhone Duo should feel familiar from day one. FaceTime, iMessage, AirDrop, Apple Intelligence, and Apple Pencil support all work in the same Apple environment. The trade-off is that Apple’s phone is eSIM-only, so anyone who relies on a physical SIM should check with their carrier before buying.

The Pixel 11 Pro Fold is the more flexible multitasking device. Google highlights Split Screen, Drag & Drop, Instant View, app bubbles, Gemini features, and Circle to Search. It also includes seven years of Android version updates, security updates, and Pixel Drops. The Pixel supports one physical Nano-SIM alongside eSIM, which makes it easier to move between carriers or use a backup line.

Performance and battery

iPhone Duo uses Apple’s A20 Pro chip. Apple lists a six-core CPU, a seven-core GPU with Neural Accelerators, and a dual 16-core Neural Engine. Pixel 11 Pro Fold uses Google Tensor G6 with 16GB of RAM and a Titan M3 security chip.

Those chip names do not tell us which phone will feel faster in every app. Apple and Google optimize their processors for different workloads, and iPhone Duo is not available for independent testing yet. For now, the safe conclusion is that both phones have current flagship hardware, while the real performance gap will have to wait for hands-on reviews.

Battery claims are similarly difficult to compare. Apple says iPhone Duo lasts up to 24 hours in typical use and lists up to 44 hours of video playback on the outer display or 31 hours on the inner display. Google gives the Pixel 11 Pro Fold a 24-plus-hour claim and lists a typical 4,806mAh battery.

Apple says iPhone Duo can reach 50% in about 20 minutes with a 60W-capable adapter. Google says the Pixel can reach 50% in about 30 minutes with a 30W USB-C PPS charger or higher. Apple sells its adapter separately, so remember to budget for a compatible charger if you do not already have one.

Durability and long-term ownership

Both phones have an IP68 rating, but that does not make either one waterproof or immune to damage. Foldable hinges and large flexible displays still deserve more care than a regular slab phone.

iPhone Duo uses a titanium foldable design with Ceramic Shield 2 on the front and a Ceramic Shield back. Google says the Pixel uses a new gearless hinge, a glass fiber composite back, and ultra-strong ceramic outer cover glass. Google also says the Pixel is three times more durable than the Pixel 10 Pro Fold in its internal testing. That is a generational claim, not a direct durability test against iPhone Duo.

The Pixel has the clearer published software-support promise: seven years of OS, security, and Pixel Drop updates. Apple has a long history of supporting iPhones for years, but the iPhone Duo specifications page does not give a fixed support duration in the same way.

U.S. price and availability

iPhone Duo starts at $1,999 with 256GB of storage. Preorders open October 16, and the phone goes on sale in the U.S. on October 23. The top 2TB model gives Apple a storage tier Google does not offer.

Pixel 11 Pro Fold starts at $1,899 with 256GB and is already available. Google offers 512GB and 1TB versions, but no 2TB model. Google Store promotions and trade-in values can change, so use the $1,899 list price for a fair comparison and treat any discount as a temporary bonus.

The $100 difference matters at this price, especially because Google also gives you larger displays and a dedicated telephoto camera. That gives the Pixel an advantage for shoppers who want a foldable without paying extra for Apple’s ecosystem.

Which foldable should you buy?

For most people buying a foldable phone today, the Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold is the better choice. It costs less, is lighter, has larger displays, includes a dedicated 5x telephoto camera, supports a physical SIM, and is available now. Its seven-year update promise also makes the ownership case easier to explain.

Buy the Pixel 11 Pro Fold if you:

• care about zoom, travel, or close-up photography;
• want a lighter foldable for daily use;
• need a physical SIM option;
• want to buy the phone now; or
• prefer Android multitasking and Gemini features.

Buy iPhone Duo if you:

• already use an iPhone, Mac, Apple Watch, or iPad;
• want Apple’s video tools and Dolby Vision recording;
• plan to use Apple Pencil USB-C;
• want up to 2TB of storage; or
• are willing to wait until October 23 for iOS on a foldable.

My pick is the Pixel 11 Pro Fold for most foldable shoppers and iPhone Duo for committed Apple users. The Pixel is the better value and the more capable camera phone on paper. iPhone Duo is the more interesting choice if your daily life already runs through Apple, but wait for independent reviews before paying $1,999 for a first-generation foldable.
