Note: If you do not have your iPhone, visit iCloud.com on a computer and sign in using your Apple ID. Next, click on Find iPhone → All Devices. If you see your Apple Watch listed here, that means Activation Lock is in action.
When you unpair your Apple Watch using the Watch app, it removes the Activation Lock. It will also create the backup so that you can restore it later and have all your data.
