I almost gave up canceling Netflix until I realized how I was being billed

I first canceled Netflix after finishing Stranger Things. Things to know before canceling your Netflix subscription

Before you cancel your membership, keep these points in mind:

• Your membership stays active until the end of your current billing cycle.
• You won’t be charged again unless you restart your membership.
• Downloads stop working once your membership expires.
• Deleting the Netflix app doesn’t cancel your subscription.
• If Apple, Google Play, your carrier, or another provider handles billing, you’ll need to cancel through that service.

How to cancel your Netflix subscription from the website

If you subscribed directly through Netflix, using the website is the quickest and easiest option.

1. Visit Netflix.com and sign in to your account.
2. Now, click your profile icon and select Manage Profiles.
   
3. Here, click Manage Membership under Membership Details
4. Next, select Cancel Membership, and follow the on-screen instructions to confirm.
   

Your membership will remain active until the end of your current billing period, so you can continue watching until then.

How to cancel Netflix subscription on the mobile app

The Netflix app doesn’t let you complete the cancellation directly. Instead, it redirects you to your account page in a web browser, where you can manage your membership.

1. Open the Netflix app and tap My Netflix or your profile.
2. Tap your profile name at the top left corner.
   
3. Here, tap Account, and the app will redirect you to the Netflix webpage.
4. Now, scroll to the bottom and tap Cancel Membership.
   
5. Follow the on-screen instructions to confirm canceling.

If you don’t see these options, your subscription is likely being managed by another billing provider.

How to cancel Netflix subscription through Apple

If the cancellation option isn’t available on Netflix’s website or app, don’t assume something is wrong. In many cases, the membership is billed through Apple instead.

To cancel:

1. Go to Settings → Apple Account → Subscriptions.
2. Here, select Netflix under Active subscriptions.
3. Choose Cancel Subscription and confirm.

Note: You’ll only see Netflix here if you originally subscribed using your Apple Account.

How to cancel Netflix subscription through Google Play

If Google Play handles your Netflix payments, you’ll need to cancel your membership from the Play Store.

1. Open the Google Play Store and tap your profile picture.
2. Go to Payments & subscriptions > Subscriptions.
3. Here, locate and tap Netflix.
4. Tap Cancel subscription.
5. Follow the on-screen instructions.

What if your carrier or internet provider bills you?

Some mobile and broadband plans include Netflix as part of the package. In those cases, Netflix doesn’t manage your billing, so you won’t find a cancellation option in your account.

Instead, sign in to your carrier or internet provider’s account and manage your Netflix membership there. If you can’t find the option, contact the provider’s support team for assistance.

Can you cancel Netflix subscription from a Smart TV?

No. While you can access your account and watch content from a Smart TV, the TV app doesn’t include an option to cancel your membership.

To cancel, sign in to Netflix from a web browser on your phone, tablet, or computer and follow the steps above.
