Siri might finally feel like a real AI, with Apple testing a chat-style experience in iOS 27.
I have been waiting for Apple to take Siri seriously as an AI assistant, and iOS 27 might finally be that moment. If the latest report is accurate, Apple is preparing to introduce a dedicated Siri app that works more like a modern AI chatbot.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple could unveil this new Siri experience at WWDC 2026 on June 8. And honestly, this feels like the shift Siri has needed for years.
From what I am seeing, Apple is no longer treating Siri as a background feature. Instead, it is being rebuilt as a full-fledged AI interface.
Gurman reports that Apple is testing a standalone Siri app across iPhone, iPad, and Mac. That alone tells me Apple wants Siri to compete directly with tools like ChatGPT and Gemini, not just set timers or send texts.
Even more interesting, Apple has already partnered with Google to integrate its Gemini models into Siri and Apple Intelligence. These features were first previewed at WWDC 2024, but we still have not seen them fully roll out.
At this point, it appears Apple is playing the long game, but the pieces are finally coming together.
What caught my attention is how Apple is reportedly designing this new experience.
Instead of the old voice-only interaction, the Siri app will behave more like a messaging interface. Think chat bubbles, ongoing conversations, and a persistent UI where you can go back and forth naturally.
From a usability standpoint, this is a huge deal. I have always felt Siri’s biggest limitation was not intelligence. It was interaction design.
The redesign sounds like a proper evolution rather than a minor refresh.
Here’s what’s reportedly being tested:
I like this direction because it blends system-level access with a chat-style interface, something Apple has never quite nailed before.
Beyond the app itself, Apple is also working on deeper system integration.
Two features stand out:
This shows that Apple does not just want Siri to answer questions; it wants Siri to do things everywhere.
Right now, we are still waiting. Apple delayed its Personal Intelligence features beyond the iOS 18 cycle, and even with iOS 26.4 now out, the promised AI upgrades have not fully arrived.
If things go as expected, iOS 26.5 could bring the first wave of Gemini-powered features. But the real transformation looks reserved for iOS 27.
I have used Siri daily for years, and I’ve also spent a lot of time with modern AI tools. The gap between them has been obvious.
This move changes that. If Apple executes this well, Siri stops being a legacy feature and becomes a serious AI layer across the entire system. And for the first time in a long time, I am actually looking forward to using it.
Would you actually use Siri as a full AI chatbot, or are you already too deep into ChatGPT and Gemini? Share your thoughts in the comments.
