iPhone Duo: Everything You Need to Know About Apple’s First Foldable iPhone
Apple's first foldable iPhone has two OLED displays, Touch ID, A20 Pro, dual 48MP cameras, and a $1,999 U.S. starting price. Here's what it offers.
Apple introduced iPhone Duo during its September 9 event, making it the company’s first foldable iPhone. The official iPhone Duo product page confirms a 7.6-inch inner display, a 5.4-inch outer screen, and Touch ID in the side button. In the U.S., preorders begin October 16 at 5:00 a.m. PT, with availability starting October 23.
Apple’s pages also draw a useful boundary. The phone uses a two-camera rear system and Touch ID. The battery and performance numbers are Apple’s own test claims.
The same A20 Pro chip powers iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, but those phones use a conventional design and a three-camera Pro system.
Two OLED displays in a foldable design
iPhone Duo has a 7.6-inch Super Retina XDR all-screen OLED folding display on the inside and a 5.4-inch Super Retina XDR all-screen OLED display on the outside. The inner panel has a nano-texture finish and wide-angle OLEDs.
Both screens include Dynamic Island, Always-On display, and ProMotion with adaptive refresh rates up to 120Hz. Apple lists 1000 nits of typical max brightness, 1600 nits of HDR peak brightness, and 3000 nits of outdoor peak brightness, with a 1-nit minimum brightness.
The official dimensions are:
- Open: 6.48 inches wide, 4.64 inches high, and 0.21 inches thick.
- Folded: 3.31 inches wide, 4.64 inches high, and 0.44 inches thick.
- Weight: 8.96 ounces, or 254 grams.
Apple says the two screens keep a consistent aspect ratio, so content can move between the inner and outer displays without changing its basic shape. It also says the inner display uses multiple thin layers and optically clear adhesives that let the layers glide as the phone folds. The page describes Apple’s foldable display design, but it does not establish how the display will hold up in everyday use.
Titanium, Ceramic Shield, and Touch ID
The frame and hinge cover use Grade 5 titanium. Apple’s technical specifications list Ceramic Shield 2 on the front, Ceramic Shield on the back, and a scratch-resistant coating on the inner display. The phone has an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance, tested to a maximum depth of 6 meters for up to 30 minutes under IEC standard 60529.
iPhone Duo comes in Night Sky and Star White. It uses Touch ID instead of Face ID, with the fingerprint sensor built into the side button. Apple says the same sensor works whether the phone is open or folded.
iOS 27 adds more room for apps
iPhone Duo ships with iOS 27, which Apple has adapted for the two-screen design. In landscape mode, Split View lets you use two apps side by side on the inner display. In portrait mode, the wider layout gives you more room for the keyboard and browsing, while a video can stay pinned at the top as you use another app.
The phone can also sit at different angles. Apple shows it standing in StandBy mode as a clock, photo frame, or widget display. It can sit in a seated position for watching a show or following a workout, and it can stand on its own for hands-free video calls. When closed, the outer display is meant for quick, one-handed use.
The larger canvas also supports Apple Pencil (USB-C), although Apple says that support is coming later this year. For broader software context, see what changed in iOS 27 compared with iOS 26.
A20 Pro and Apple Intelligence
The A20 Pro chip has a 6-core CPU, a 7-core GPU with Neural Accelerators, and a Dual 16-core Neural Engine. Apple says the Neural Engine is designed for intensive AI workloads and pairs the chip with a vapor chamber thermal management system. Those are Apple’s hardware and performance claims, not independent benchmark or thermal results.

Apple Intelligence powers Siri AI on iPhone Duo. Apple describes a more conversational assistant with personal context, broad world knowledge, Camera-based help, intelligent photo editing, and productivity features inside apps. The product page says Siri AI is rolling out in English, and Apple notes that feature availability can vary. The new Apple Intelligence features in iOS 27 provide a wider look at the software update, but the final availability still depends on Apple’s language and regional limits.
Two 48MP rear cameras, with 2x optical-quality zoom
The rear camera system has two listed cameras:
- 48MP Fusion Main camera with a 26mm focal length, f/1.6 aperture, sensor-shift optical image stabilisation, and support for 24MP and 48MP photos.
- 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide camera with a 13mm focal length, f/2.2 aperture, and a 120-degree field of view.
Apple lists 2x optical-quality zoom in, 2x optical zoom out, a 4x optical-quality zoom range, and digital zoom up to 10x. Its technical specifications also mention a 12MP optical-quality 2x Telephoto output under the Fusion Main camera. Apple does not list a separate telephoto lens for iPhone Duo, so that 2x mode should not be described as a third rear camera.
The outer camera is a 12MP Centre Stage camera. The inner display has an under-display FaceTime camera that records 1080p video. Apple also lists Smart Take, Duo Preview, Kid Cue, Duo FaceTime, Dual Capture, and Centre Stage for photos and video calls. The current iPhone Duo pages do not give it the separate Pro camera system listed for Apple’s Pro models.
USB-C, MagSafe, Qi2, and eSIM
iPhone Duo has a USB-C connector for charging, DisplayPort output, and USB 3 data transfer at up to 10Gb/s. Its wireless charging system supports MagSafe up to 25W and Qi2 up to 25W.
Apple’s technical specifications list the N1 wireless networking chip, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and the C2 cellular modem. The phone is eSIM-only and supports two active eSIMs while storing eight or more eSIMs. It does not support a physical SIM card.
Battery and charging claims
iPhone Duo uses two built-in rechargeable lithium-ion batteries. Apple claims up to 24 hours of typical use, up to 44 hours of video playback when using the outer display, and up to 31 hours when using the inner display. For streamed video, Apple lists up to 37 hours on the outer display and up to 26 hours on the inner display.
With a 60W-capable adapter or higher and a USB-C cable, Apple says the phone can reach 50% charge in around 20 minutes. With a 35W adapter or higher and a MagSafe Charger, it says 50% takes around 30 minutes. The adapters and MagSafe Charger are sold separately. These figures are Apple’s test claims, not real-world battery results.

Apple’s U.S. Store page lists four storage options for iPhone Duo:

U.S. preorders start Friday, October 16, at 5:00 a.m. PT on Apple’s website and in the Apple Store app. iPhone Duo will be available from October 23 at Apple and through select carriers and partner stores.
